Design Renewals in Turkey

In Turkey, design registrations can be renewed every five years, up to 25 years. This article outlines the key deadlines, fees, and renewal options—including online and attorney-assisted methods.

Protection Term and Renewal Obligation

Registered designs in Turkey are initially protected for 5 years from the filing date. This term can be renewed in 5-year periods up to a maximum of 25 years. To maintain the rights, a renewal request must be submitted and the renewal fee must be paid.

Renewal Deadlines

  • The renewal request must be submitted within 6 months prior to the expiry of the design registration.

  • If not renewed by the expiry date, a 6-month grace period applies for late renewal with a surcharge.

Failure to Renew

If the renewal is not completed within the 6-month grace period, the design registration expires. Rights cannot be restored once the grace period has lapsed.

Applicable Fee Schedule

Renewal fees must be paid in the year they become due, based on the official fee schedule published for that year. Early payment based on previous years’ fees is not accepted.
