The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) recently published the World Intellectual Property Indicators report 2018, which shows the global demand for IP tools in 2017 (see https://www.wipo.int/edocs/pubdocs/en/wipo_pub_941_2018.pdf).

Some of the statistics provided by WIPO concerning trademark activities in Turkey in 2017 are as follows[i]:

Agriculture was the second highest sector accounting for 17% of all trademark filing activity while research and technology ranked third accounting for 11% of all trademark filing activity.

  • In 2017, the number of trademark registrations in force in Turkey was 945,154 (class count), indicating an annual growth rate of 9.4%.

  • The number of trademark applications (class count) submitted in Turkey was 247,474, indicating an annual growth rate of 8.9%.

[ii] This is a tool used by WIPO to make trademark registration activity internationally comparable as some offices allow single-class filing only, meaning that applicants have to file a separate application for each class.
